A Hawai, Johnny Kapahala, un jeune champion de snowboard, se rend au mariage de son grand-père où il espère rattraper le temps perdu avec ce dernier tout en profitant des vagues de l'île. Mais son grand-père n'est pas disponible car étant propriétaire d'une boutique de surf, il est harcelé par un magasin rival qui souhaite le voir disparaître. Excédé par un tel comportement, son petit fils Johnny décide alors de lui prêter main forte.
Un jeune champion de surf des neiges du Vermont, revient à Oahu, Hawaii, pour le mariage de son grand-père. Quand Johnny arrive, il rencontre sa nouvelle famille, y compris l'oncle Chris (il a 12 ans, fils de sa nouvelle belle-mère) qui resents le prochain mariage. Lorsque le grand-père de Johnny et sa nouvelle épouse, ouvre un magasin de surf, qui accueille des pensionnaires à la montagne, ils sont entraînés dans une guerre de territoire avec un rival qui veut fermer la boutique de leur entreprise. Chris va causer des complications pour l'ouverture et la cérémonie du mariage, mais il a finalement rejoint Johnny qui l' aide à trouver sa place au sein de la famille et de régler une guerre de territoire entre les magasins de sports.
